Last year we started a tradition, but we didn't know it until this year. Who knows how long it will last, but we had so much fun then that we decided we'd do it again. This year we did the same thing so now I can call it an "annual event" -- we went blueberry picking! We woke up ridiculously early (for me, who prefers to rise with the sun rather than before it.) The night before I made up some Egg McMuffin-inspired breakfast sandwiches, we woke at 5:30AM, we had everyone buckled in the car by 6:15, and we watched the sun rise as we ate our breakfast on the go. We got to the blueberry farm just as it opened at 7 and picked the yummy morsels for about two hours.
When we were hot and worn out, we had two baskets of berries between the six of us, so we called it quits on the pickin' part. We cleaned up and sat down for our second breakfast at 9 AM. The berry-pickin' is part of the tradition, but the part that the kids remembered from a year ago is the best part -- mega-muffins and ice cream for breakfast at the red barn. We had an awesome time together and got enough berries to keep smiling for awhile (except when its time to deal with diapers...) Happy Father's Day to my wonderful husband and to both of our terrific dads!!
We are already looking forward to doing it all again next year .... unless we give in and go back for more berries in a couple of weeks. ;)
