Today was pretty enough that all my windows were open. As I was reading, I heard a bird call that I didn't recognize, so I started looking for what I heard. I was amazed to look out the kitchen window and see this beauty in the tree. I didn't recognize the huge (about the size of a crow) woodpecker, but I always have my bird guide nearby, and I quickly discovered it was a Pileated Woodpecker. I snapped a few photos for proof that I saw this somewhat rare-to-see bird.
