Truth be told, I am scrambling to get the blog as updated as it will get before I leave this weekend. I still have SO many photos I want to share, but the stories are getting jumbled as new ones are being made. Please excuse the short stories, and just let the photos tell a lot of the tale.
Ben, Maddie, and Jon spent a day at a local park with the kindergarten classes for field day. The PE teacher had been working with them for a couple weeks teaching them the games and relays they would be doing. As the kids got into the fun, it was obvious the teacher must have also spent a lot of time preparing them for how to keep it moving quickly -- I was really impressed with how the whole thing went.
First thing in the morning, two classes (Maddie's and Jon's) competed in several different events while the other two classes (including Ben's) were at the playground. The first event was a bit silly: kick the shoe. Just as many kids kicked their shoes behind them, but the kids were also trained to stay put until a helper got them back in their shoes (no muddy socks - yay!). There were also sack races, a 50-yard dash, a water balloon relay, and a class-vs.-class tug-of-war. Here are some of my favorite pictures from the day.
Maddie's shoe went REALLY high... not too far, though.
Jon in the sack raceMaddie is the second from the left in the green shirt
Jon is second from the left. His tongue was out and touching his lip every time he was competing.
Getting ready for the water-balloon relay. Maddie is the cutie in the front. Jon is on the left being a goober. It somehow lined up so that they were on the same team with Jon handing the balloon to Maddie, so I gave the teacher a pat on the back for making it easy for me to watch.
The tug-of-war was Maddie's class against Jon's. That meant I was the only parent NOT cheering on a particular team. ... and it was challenging getting the pictures.
Guess who won....
In the second round of competitions, it was much easier to snap photos. Here is Ben getting ready for the 50-yard dash. He is all the way on the right down low...focusing... REALLY ready to run ;)
Ben's favorite friend this year has been Patrick. Patrick is actually a bit younger than Ben, but he is a big kiddo!
Ben was ready for the tug-of-war. In his words, "We always win when Patrick is there!"
It was a great day that ended at the splash park. The kids all had a great time, and it was very-well organized. Our three were talking about it for weeks before it happened, and they still keep remembering the fun they had that day. They are already looking forward to the next one!
